Lower School (Grades K - 5) Cultivating gratitude, kindness, joy, patience, and wonder

Students will build core knowledge related to History, Timeline, Science, Geography, English, and Math, and grow in their appreciation for beauty through engaging great works of art, poetry, and music using the Cycle 3 Memory work guide created by https://www.scholesongs.com/. Daily time will be devoted to Scripture memory through copywork. recitation, and chant.

This memory work will be integrated into the following class periods:

English Enrichment: Activities will be interactive and build on the English grammar memory work, as well as introduce students to select classic works of poetry, literature, and vocabulary. 

History/ Geography: Students will further engage the content of weekly history sentences through viewing photos of artifacts, completing activities, and listening to selections taken from The Story of the World Vol. 3: Early Modern Times. Younger students will do the same using historical picture books. Geography will be explored through tracing, labeling, and learning more about each piece of the geography memory work.  Lives of Saints who lived in the times and regions studied will be woven into the course.

Hands-on Science: Students will have fun learning about the solar system, astronomy, and simple physics through hands-on activities, which build on weekly science memory work. Students will be encouraged to reflect learning through simple drawings, narrations, and notes.  

Upper School (Grades 6 - 8) Cultivating wisdom, love, perseverance, and courage 

Grades 6-8 will be combined and assignments scaled as necessary to accommodate this. English, History/ Geography, and Science will include at-home assignments to create a full course of study for each subject. In addition to the courses below, students will be encouraged to appreciate beauty through weekly engagement with great works of visual and musical art taken from "The Beauty Corner" portion of the Scholé Songs curriculum used by the lower school.

English: Students will explore the English language through weekly poetry, vocabulary, and periodic discussion of selected literary works. Writing assignments will frequently align with history and science content to deepen learning as students gradually refine compositional structure and style. The Institute for Excellence in Writing's “History-Based Writing” series will be the basis of the composition method used; however, source material for weekly assignments will be chosen by the instructor. 

History and Geography: The Story of the World Vol. 3: Early Modern Times will be the basis of student exploration of history and geography. Class periods will involve discussion, mapwork, student presentations, and hands-on activities designed to extend learning.  Assigned reading and narration assignments will be completed at home throughout the week. Lives of Saints who lived in the times and regions studied will be woven into the course.

Science Lab: Science will include assigned reading prior to class to prepare students for in-class experiments and activities. Students will periodically prepare brief presentations related to scientific topics that they find interesting. Curriculum: TBD
